Lachman was an All-Conference defensive end as a sophomore. He returns after missing almost all of his junior year.

Nearly a year after a season-ending Achilles injury cut short his junior campaign, Canyon High's Zack Lachman is set to return for his senior season. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound defensive end and tight end enters the year with added size and a renewed opportunity to build on the promise he showed before the injury.

Lachman suffered the injury during Week 1 of his junior season, going down shortly after halftime.

"I had an Achilles tear Week 1 right after the first half, during the third week of August last year," Lachman said. "It's been almost 12 months since the injury."

Lachman has also been a multi-sport athlete throughout his time at Canyon High, competing in football, basketball, and volleyball.

Before his junior season was cut short by injury, Lachman turned heads during his sophomore football season. Despite weighing just 175 pounds, he recorded 49 tackles and three tackles for loss, earning All-Conference honors at defensive end.

"I was 175 pounds sophomore year and was still able to secure DE All-Conference," Lachman said. "I'm 215 pounds now and can't wait to see how this year goes."

Lachman's sophomore film reflects many of the traits that made him successful. He consistently sets the edge against the run, plays with physicality at the point of attack, and uses active hands to keep blockers from getting into his frame. His speed also shows up on tape, where he tracks down ball carriers in full sprint on multiple occasions, using his relentless pursuit to prevent would-be touchdowns.

His length is one of the first things that stands out on film. At 6-foot-6, Lachman routinely gets his hands into passing lanes, batting down passes at the line of scrimmage and disrupting opposing passing attacks. His combination of length, physicality, and pursuit consistently shows up on film, allowing him to impact plays in multiple ways.

Now listed at 215 pounds, Lachman has added approximately 40 pounds since earning All-Conference honors as a sophomore. The added size complements his lengthy frame as he prepares to return for his senior season.

Lachman's success extends beyond the football field. He carries a 3.67 cumulative GPA, reflecting the importance he places on academics while balancing the demands of being a multi-sport student-athlete.

Now nearly a year removed from his injury, Lachman enters his senior season with an opportunity to build on the success he showed as a sophomore. Equipped with added size, he returns looking to make an impact on both sides of the ball while helping lead Canyon High this fall.
